Production Company

For my Film Trailer i have had to design my own production company the idea i have come up with is Casual.Culture.Productions it consists of a kind of hooligan like logo which i think represents my genre of film well. The reason i have done this is throughout my research all professional looking DVD covers and trailers all include production company's so therefore to make my trailer look more professional i have come up with my own.

This is also another lay out of a magazine cover that i may use when designing my films magazine cover, although i may not use this actual lay out i mate take different aspects from it and corporate them in to my final design.

This is one basic mock up lay out that i may use or use different aspects from the lay out when designing my magazine cover for my film trailer.

Trailer Script

SCRIPT

Clip where outside of the school (mid group shot)

Harry Pickford – “When I see that Hack hales im going rip his head of “

Dan Barlow – “Im going smash that wasteman”

Liam Proyer – “Im going smash that pussy when a see him outside school, yeah”

Harry agrees - “yeahhh”

Dan Barlow – “ahh shit were going to be late boys”

Clip where it skips to the closer shot of them all getting around him and intimidating him (mid group shot)
Harry – “come on boys lets get him in the shed… lets get him in that shed man!”

Clip where beat and pushed to floor

Jack Hales – each time gets hit makes a kind of hurt distress noise.

Clip where blank then jack runs past then to right out of school
Dan Barlow – (not in shot, shouts) “pussyole”

This is going to be my script When shooting my film trailer, though when filming I may change it slightly or it may be said in a more informal way to give a better and more realistic effect.

The reason I haven’t included such a long script for my trailer is because a lot of the shots in my trailer and also the mood throughout the shots will give the audience a better feeling of what is going on. Also it lets the audience have there own interpretation on the situation that will be in my trailer. Another reason why I have kept my script so short is because it doesn’t give the audience too much of an in site as to what happens and leaves it for the audience to want to watch the actual film as this is the whole purpose of a trailer.

Location Shots

These are the three locations i am going to use to film different clips for my trailer. I i will also use inside the house and also inside some of the school grounds. On the first location shot in the street i have had to think about lighting as i am going to use this location when the boys assaults the to bullies. The reason i chose this location was because of the street lamps and they should resolve any lighting issues i may have if it becomes to dark to film under natural lighting.

Professional Storyboard

Storyboard

The reason i have made a storyboard is because this gives me a basic plan for my film trailer although i may add or remove ideas when filming and editing my film trailer.

From this basic story board i am now going to make an animatics video to give me a good idea of how i am going to film my trailer.

Storyline

From my research and studying of film trailers i have finally decided on a storyline for my film trailer. I have decided to stick with my chosen genre from my research which is thriller, but i am going to make it a kind of drama / thriller. My reasons for this is because most British films made today that are popular are drama or thriller genres. I believe the reason for this is because in drama's people can relate to the typical day to day situations but also if i include a thrilling aspect it should make my trailer more thrilling and a better sensation for viewers. Also this will widen my target audience and bring in more viewers.

My storyline - for my storyline it is going to be as follows.

A boy goes to school and gets bullied every day of his life by three bullies. Then one day he comes out of school and the bullies take him to a small room on the complex of the school and beat him then the boy will run home. Once he gets home already feeling frustrated and confused as to why its him. He then goes to his room opens up his laptop to find that the bullies have emailed him trying to wind him up. The boy will then flip and go down stairs to pick up a weapon of some sort, leave the house to find the bullies. He then finds two of them walking down a dark road and assaults them both and then once the assault is over he realises what he has done and hides the knife.

I have not yet thought of an ending, but i do not think this matters as in every trailer they never reveal the ending of the film or to much of what the result of certain consequences can end up in. Also if i leave the trailer hanging with the viewer wanting to know what happens as a result of the assault to the bullies.

The reason i think my storyline will be suitable for my target audiences of teenagers is because every teenager will remember or can relate to school, and in every school there is always bullying happening. Therefore so many teens will be able to relate to the storyline at hand.

From this storyline i am now going to design a storyboard and animatics in good time for good preparation before beginning to film my film trailer.

This is a list of fonts that i think will work well when designing my magazine cover, poster and i may even try to incorporate them in my trailer.

Film names

It has taken a lot of thought and research into what i want my film to be called. I spent a lot of time looking at films and there titles and thinking if they have any meaning or not. My results showed me that most thrillers did have a meaning behind the name therefore if i want my trailer to look professional i will need to include this in my film name for my trailer. I spent a long time thinking about what i could call it and eventually i found inspiration in a song i was listening to which was called F.E.A.R by Ian Brown. The reason i have chose this is because behind the name in all the lyrics of the song they started with F E A and R. This give the word fear a bigger meaning and makes the song have more of a meaning so therefore i thought i could incorporate this into my film trailer i am going to design. The lyrics with the meaning behind them that i am going to use are as follows: For. Everything. A. Reason - Forget. Everything. And. Remember - Face. Everybody. And. Rule

Genre

I have recently done a survey of the publics favourite genre of film and as you can see from my chart thriller was the most popular. From this survey i have decided to choose my genre to be a thriller (maybe with a typical rough british drama theme). However most of the public i asked were teenagers, therefore i will have to take this into consideration if i want my genre to be a thriller i will have to aim my trailer at there age range.

Planning

Now i have completed my research on film trailers i am going to begin to plan my film trailer. There are a lot of different elements i will have to take into consideration and i will also use different ideas i like from my research videos depending on the genre of film trailer i decide to make.

Digipack research

DVD Cover 2

This DVD cover is good in many different ways. It obviously includes the basic essentials such as title, age restrictions, production company logos and basic DVD information. One good element of the cover is that in the film there is like a comic book hero theme and they use like a comic book strip and have screenshots of the movie in them. Also how the background colour is a very bold red this could mean to the viewer many things. As its a hero based film red usually means danger so it could make the viewer think the film will be full of action. Also they could do it to link towards blood or even just use the bright colour to just attracts buyers eyes. It also includes many 5 star ratings from film critics and also good quotes from the critics such as "Brilliant... Thrilling... Deliriously entertaining" this says to the buyer that it will be a good film to watch and could persuade them to buy the DVD. At the top of the front side of the cover it includes a row of actors names this could also tempt a buyer into purchasing the DVD as the actors may already have a good fan base and also the film industry is stereotyped that the better the actors the better the film will be. All in all i think this is a well made DVD cover and i would like to use different elements from this product to help me get a better understanding of what might need to be included on my trailer, magazine cover and also poster.

DVD Cover 1

There are many different elements on this DVD cover that i think are good and make the cover look professional. First is the obvious elements such as age restrictions, DVD logo and features of the DVD. The actual film its self is a very feel good comedy film and i think this is shown on the DVD by using bright light colours, also all the characters on the front and back have either smiles or are in comical position to add to to the feel good mood used. Also on the front it endorses the film by using all the famous actors names as these are all well known good comedy actors. Another thing i like is how it uses a humorous bit of text to explain the film kind of like a punchline in a joke. This is shown on the front side at the bottom and says "Boys will be be boys... some longer than others". This line also links to the photo of the men going down the water slide basically acting like children. All in all i think this ia very good and effective DVD cover and i will use some elements from this to help me when creating my trailer poster and magazine cover.

Poster3

This film poster is very simplistic but affective for different reasons compared to many stereotypical posters, it however does contain basic essentials such as release date and obviously the name of the film. This poster uses a very different approach to advertise/endorse its film, because it is the third film from a series of 2 other films there is no need to give quotes or ratings from magazines or news papers as it already has a fan base/target audience. At the bottom it also tries to persuade its other target audiences from other films the directors have made called Finding Nemo and UP. It also uses a rather dark background to make the characters who are brightly coloured stand out, i think this also advertises to the audience and makes them focus on the new characters and this may make them go and watch the film. At the bottom left it also says the film is in 3D this may also entice viewers into going to watch the film as it makes watching the film a different experience compared to basic digital or even film and projector viewing. Overall although the poster is very minimal it uses its already well built reputation to the fullest and therefore i think this is a very affective film poster.

Poster2

This poster is good in many different ways. First it includes the basic essentials such as date release and minimum age and more. The background colour is very bold and bright i think this is to attract viewers attention and make it stand out more compared to other film posters. It also has all the characters doing the most iconic element of the film witch is football hooliganism also a lot of people can relate to this as it is based on true happenings. The poster also uses terminology out of the film like quotes that characters come out with like "what else you gonna do on a saturday". Also to try and endorse the film they have used a quote from a well recognised film critic magazine saying "A nose-bursting blow to the senses, totally infectious. All in all i think this is a simplistic but very effective film poster.

Poster1

There are many different elements that i like about this film poster. One is in which the back ground photo is out of focus apart from on the crow with a small bomb attached to it. This is a very iconic part in the film and i think adds to the comedy affect as people may find this rather stupid and abnormal but funny, this is good as the films genre is a comedy. Another element the poster uses to advertise and try and persuade a viewer to see the film is through media advertisement and using there quotes. As you can see it uses the word "funny" over and over again and states which news paper or magazine has rated it as funny. It also include very basic essentials such as date of release the director and minimum age to view the film, for my poster to look good i think i must use these elements to make it to a good standard and more professional.

Film Trailers by Filmtrailer.com

This film trailer uses a lot of different elements to entice the viewer into wanting to watch the film. First it uses very quick shots not many longer that 3 seconds. The reason for this as it never gives much away to the viewer but enough to give the viewer a rough idea as to what the film is about. This balance will be crucial when i come to design my film trailer as if you give to much away the film becomes pointless but if you don't give enough away the viewer might not become interested and immediately thinks that the film might be a bad one. They also use a non diegetic song out of the soundtrack which is up beat which goes well with the quick shots used. It also introduces the characters from the film in the trailer i think the reason for this is to make the viewer feel more involved/interested n the trailer because once they know the names they will want to know more about the characters. They also use a lot of hand held cameras in this trailer to give more sense of realism and make the viewer feel as if they are actually there watching the scenes from the trailer. This could also make them more interested in the film. The trailer also doesn't have a voice over but uses quotes from the film in the clips to tell/ show the viewer what the film is a bout i think this is a very smart way of making a film trailer and i may use this idea in planning my trailer.

This trailer uses different effects to attract its target audience and make them want to watch the film. One is the soundtrack, it uses a song from the sound track to interest people that already like that music into wanting to watch the film as it has this style of music in basically widening its target audience / boosting its box office figures. It also uses a very famous singer which is what this film is about as the main character to play himself this gives the trailer a bigger sense of realism and once again boosts its target audience as this famous rapper will already have a target audience from his music. it also uses different action shots from the film to entice the viewer into wanting to watch the actual film. Even though this trailer basically tells the story it misses vital parts from the story so it doesn't show the viewer to much it also doesn't show the ending of the film which will also entice the viewer into wanting to watch it.

This trailer used different elements to interest and make its viewers laugh as the genre of this film is a comedy. It uses some of its funniest clips in this trailer to not only make the viewer laugh but it will make the viewer think that the film will be funny. The reason this is done is because that if it showed rather boring clips the viewer wouldn't get interested therefore thinking the film would be a bad one. It also gives a basic idea as to what the film is about but doesn't give the ending or the full story away this leaves the viewer wondering what the outcome will be therefore wanting to watch the film. A very basic but important element also used in this trailer is the release date, although it isn't very interesting for the viewer it does give information about the films release so the viewer can go and see it.

Thursday, 9 September 2010

I like this trailer because it is short and affective. It doesn't really give any hints or clues as to what the film story is or the outcome, this leaves the viewer wanting to watch the film to find out more about it etc. It also uses the background music to give a tense atmosphere and as the music becomes more upbeat the clips become quicker and also it becomes more tense/scary. This links to the films genre, being a horror film it will need to build up tenseness etc to satisfy the target audience who will be expecting the film to give this type of atmosphere. It also has a voice over all the way through the trailer that basically directs its speech towards the viewers. This makes the viewer feel apart of the film and become more involved within the trailer as if they are invited to go and watch the film. They also use a quote "shot in state of the art 3D". This also entices the viewer to want to watch the film as they expect the film picture quality to be very good and using the latest technology in film which is 3D.

I like many different elements in this video and i think they all add up to make this trailer very good. One of the elements is the quick shots almost every single shot lasts for about 3 seconds apart from one where there is a shot which lasts for a little longer and this was to put emphasis on the knife in that clip. Also as the trailer gets further in the music becomes more upbeat building tension and the clips get faster changing on every beat. Also at the start of the trailer they use odd silences to emphasise on tension to make the viewer become more involved and more hooked to watching the clip because they want to know whats happened or happening. They also use the voices of the characters to tell a bit of the storyboard to give the viewer a hint as to what the film is about. They use a clip at the end as well which says "if your not one of us, your a victim" this gives a message/ moral to the viewer this is not only to give them an idea as to what the film is about it is also to entice them into wanting to watch the film as they don't know yet what this quote means unless they watch the film.
